I recommend watching Zero right before watching Frontier, since characters and themes from Zero are in Frontier.
Yeah, It was actually a prequel to the first part but I watched it this way and enjoyed a lot. Watching it first would be a good option as well.
Hard to go wrong, Macross is awesome. The fact that events in Zero become a movie in Frontier though means that it might be good to have fresh in your mind. It’s short. Watch it twice, it will be a nice break after watching 7.
