Netflix is releasing a new series based on the best-selling survival horror video game of all time, Resident Evil, and you can watch it on the streaming platform beginning in July.
The films did stray a bit from their origin material (the main character of Alice was created for the movie), but they did include characters and plot points from the video games. The Resident Evil film series holds the record for most live-action film adaptations made from a video game.
Dabb executive produces and writes with Mary Leah Sutton. Robert Kulzer and Oliver Berben of Constantin Film also serve as executive producers. Constantin Film CEO Martin Moszkowicz produces and Constantin Film is the studio. The series stars Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker alongside Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph and Paola Nuñez. Additional cast members are Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gosatti and Turlough Convery.
Synopsis:
Set to debut on July 14, Resident Evil takes place in the year 2036. Fourteen years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the bloodthirsty infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.
The live-action series will be the streamer’s second incursion into the Resident Evil universe. The first was the animated series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, which starred video game voice actors Nick Apostolides and Stephanie Panisello. Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness debuted in July 2021.
Although the franchise’s previous attempts to do the live action films have been subpar, if comparing them to the video games as Resident Evil, fans can only do but hope that the series satisfies their cravings of more zombie apocalypse.
