One Piece Manga Takes One-Month Hiatus to Prepare for the “Final Saga”

One Piece manga hiatus

The official Twitter account for Mangaka Eiichiro Oda announced on Tuesday that the One Piece manga will take a break for 1 month while Mangaka prepares for the manga’s “Final Saga” and the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the manga.

The One Piece manga will go on break from Weekly Shōnen Jump’s 30th issue on June 27 until its 33rd issue. It will be back in the 34th issue on July 25th in the magazine. The magazine’s previous 27th issue was published on Monday, which means the manga series still has two more chapters, 1052 and 1053, before the break starts.

Eiichiro Oda has so much on his plate this year, with winding up the Wano arc, the upcoming anime feature film One Piece: Red being released, and most importantly, the 25th anniversary of the series, so Oda wants to take time off preparing for that too.

Oda also said he plans to visit Africa to supervise Netflix’s One Piece live-action. Oda’s previous trip to Africa was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Apart from that, the promotion for the One Piece Red film is starting with the manga’s 25th anniversary. With so many exciting things happening at once, Oda decided to take a month-long break.

It’s always hard to imagine that One Piece might end eventually, and as much as we hate to admit it, the manga is now almost at the finishing line. Fans are debating whether the announcement means One Piece only has one arc left. However, we’ve known for a while that One Piece was finally coming to an end; in 2020, Oda said One Piece would end in five years

About One Piece:

One Piece manga is written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. While Oda was still in high school, he was a runner-up for the Tezuka Award for new creators from Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine in 1992.

Oda began serializing the One Piece manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine in July 1997. As of July 2021, the manga had 490 million copies in circulation globally. The manga won the 41st Japan Cartoonist Awards in 2012 and set a Guinness World Record in 2015 for “the most copies published of the same comic book series by a single author“.

One Piece follows the story of the pirate named Monkey D. Luffy and his adventure to be the Pirate King. During his journey, he builds a formidable and lovable crew known as the Straw Hats, recruiting a swordsman, marksman, navigator, cook, doctor, archaeologist, and cyborg-shipwright. This will be one memorable adventure.
