A Captivating Storyline
The story begins with an extremely clumsy boy, and we originally see his point of view of the person he is dating, Shikimori-san. Unlike other romance anime, this anime begins with the characters already in love and together. With the introduction of other characters, we all soon see their perspective.
The mysterious main character Shikimori-san makes you laugh with her reactions towards everything around her, mainly to her boyfriend’s presence. The story has a captivating touch due to the mystery surrounding Shikimori-san.
Exceptional & Fresh Characterization
Just like most romance anime the main characters, Yuu Izumi with his clumsiness and bad luck, and Micchon Shikimori are the most loved characters.
The characters such as Nekozaki, Hachimitsu, and Inuzuka add humor to this anime. Even the family members of the main characters introduced before the eighth episode have been adding to the humor.
Quite Impressive Music
The popular OST of this anime has gotten everyone bobbing their heads. “Honey Jet Coaster” has already become extremely famous.
It was heard by 1 Million people on YouTube by the time the anime had 3 episodes. Nasuo’s singing in this anime has garnered a lot of attention for its beauty.
Decent & Eye-Catching Animation
The animation by Doga Kobo has come a long way since anime like Monthly Girls Nozaki-Kun. Even scenes such as Shikimori pulling her hair back garnered a lot of attention due to the beautiful animation. The eyes of the characters are the proof of the level of the animation.
A Few More Thoughts!
This anime is captivating from the beginning by showing the bad luck of Yuu Izumi. While each episode made me laugh more and get more into the characters, part of Shikimori seemed a little forced to stay different from the stereotypical characteristics usually related to female characters.
While that is the case, the hilarious reactions and humorous storyline do leave an impact. It was also easy to relate to some characters and understand ideas such as unrequited love. This anime has an emotional depth to it, that it seems to still be exploring.
