Slam Dunk Anime Film Opens in Japan on December 3!

Slam Dunk Movie release date

We already learned quite a while ago (almost 12 months ago to be precise) that the new Slam Dunk anime film will be coming in the fall of this year. Now, however, there appears to be a precise release date for the anime feature film based on Takehiko Inoue’s spokon manga.

According to the latest news from Japan, where some promotional posters have appeared in various Japanese cinemas, Slam Dunk will debut at the cinema on December 3, 2022.

The official title of the new anime film is “The First Slam Dunk.” The posters in question show the faces of the main protagonists accompanied by the tagline The First Slam Dunk, which the official Twitter account of the film has confirmed to be the final title of the film.

Inoue personally directs the new Slam Dunk film at Toei Animation, following a script written by the same mangaka. Yasuyuki Ebara (Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress) is taking care of the character designer as well as being credited as director of animation. Kazuo Ogura is handling the visuals and Yota Tsuruoka is the sound director along with Koji Kasamatsu.

Katsuhiko Kitada (Attack on Titan, Major: Yujo no Winning Shot), Naoki Miyahara (Digimon Adventure, Popin Q), Toshio Ohashi (Stories Layer 0) and Yu Kamatani (Precure Super Stars!) Complete the technical team linked to the animations, while Daiki Nakazawa heads the CG of the film that sees Yuta Ogurala as a producer.

Slam Dunk is a famous anime series that was broadcasted on Animax and also received four sequels in OVA.

The original Slam Dunk TV anime aired from 1993 to 1996, with four anime films being spun off from the original anime. You can catch an on-demand replay of the TV anime on Crunchyroll.
