The Box Office Mojo website on Thursday that Makoto Shinkai‘s Weathering With You anime film earned 1,586,217 US$ and ranked #2 at the U.S box office on Wednesday. While 1917 ranked #1 with the grossing of 3,399,885 US$ and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ranked #3 with the grossing of 1,261,857 US$ on Wednesday. The screening of the movie is being done by Fathom Events in the United States on Wednesday and Thursday. The screenings are a “Special Fan Preview” even with an exclusive bonus content. The screenings in North America will start on Friday and will have English-subbed and English-dubbed screenings.

The movie was submitted for the consideration of both the Animated Feature Film and the Best International Feature Film category for 92nd Academy Awards.
The film has been received a nomination in the category of Best Animated Independent Feature for the 47th Annual Annie Awards. And it won the Audience Award at the film festival in Los Angeles, California and also won the Best Animated Feature Film at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Australia on November 21. Weathering With You ranking #2 on US box office is a quite a big achievement for Makoto Shinkai.
