On Friday, the eighth issue of Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine confirmed that the 42nd volume of Kentarou Miura’s Berserk manga will be released in Japan on September 29. A Guts figurine will be included in a special edition version of the manga volume. The issue also confirmed that the manga will feature a new chapter in the magazine’s combined ninth and tenth issues on April 28.
Sadly, Miura died on May 6, 2021, from severe aortic dissection. He was 54. After his death, the manga was put on hold, but it was revived in Young Animal in June 2022. The manga is currently credited as “Original work by Kentarou Miura, manga by Studio Gaga, supervised by Kouji Mori.”
Miura’s studio, Studio Gaga, is staffed by helpers and apprentices who previously worked on Berserk alongside him. Mori is Miura’s boyhood friend, with whom he frequently consults for story elements on Berserk. In June 2022, Mori stated that he “know[s] the story for Berserk up to the very end.” Mori created a one-shot comic in Young Animal in 2021 on his lifetime friendship and creative partnership with Miura.
