Not every human gets the life they deserve, but something we can all do is improve it little by little by going through hardships. However, in the anime genre reincarnation, the main characters get unlucky first, and then perhaps gods find it unfair to end their life so easily and provide them with a new one.

Isekai anime has become one of the best sources of entertainment in the current world, as fantasy always intrigues everyone. While it’s all subjective, we’ve compiled a list of reincarnation anime we believe are the best of the very best. So, get onboard as we jump through each incarnation to explore a different story from various fascinating worlds.

13. I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years & Maxed Out My Level

A reincarnation anime necessarily need not feature a protagonist who is hell-bent on conquering the world through his genius aptitude for magic and battle to stand out from the crowd. Some are just meant for relaxation with a joyful ride of adorable moments, and I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years & Maxed Out My Level offers just that.

When Azusa, who worked as a corporate slave, dies of severe exhaustion, she reincarnates into a peaceful fantasy world. With their newfound life, she enjoys her days peacefully by tending the fields, protecting the neighboring village, and killing slimes whenever she’s bored.

However, she reaches the highest level in the world possible without notice. As her name spreads, new people arrive at her doorstep, some to ask for help and others to challenge her on duels.

12. Wise Man’s Grandchild

While all isekai anime with a reincarnation concept are not considered masterpieces, most people enjoy them the way they are, although most are treading with flaws. Wise Man’s Grandchild is an apparent example of this statement as there isn’t much originality to it, but it still entertains you a lot by exploring a fantasy world and providing plenty of action scenes.

Merlin, once regarded as a national hero, has decided to live a life of tranquility by raising an orphan he saved. It turns out that this orphan is Shin, an average man in modern-day Japan who is reincarnated after an unexpected death while still retaining his memories. The anime follows how he grows up in this new world, his tribulations, experiences, and everything one may want in an isekai.

11. By the Grace of Gods

By the Grace of Gods is another relaxing and chill anime that you can watch if you want a break from all the action stuff and based around the concept of reincarnation. You can’t expect much from it, like battles and a story that goes somewhere, but you get peace of mind along the protagonist.

Ryouma Takebayashi is fed up with the corporate life routine that has begun eating him alive, and unexpectedly, he passed away in his sleep. However, the gods have shown him grace and offered him to live in a peaceful world where he can do what he always wanted: happiness.

With isekai reincarnation stories skyrocketing in popularity these past few years, plenty of anime have entertained the fans, and The World’s Finest Assassin is arguably one of the best in the genre.

The world’s greatest assassin who swore allegiance to the organization that raised him was killed by the very same thing he considered home, and soon enough, he was reincarnated into a noble family of assassins in a fantasy world. Tasked with a mission to save the world by slaying the hero, he must learn new assassination techniques, as killing such a formidable hero is anything but easy.

9. Reincarnated as a Sword

The title may drive you further away from this anime due to the seeming role the main character plays, but it is surprisingly good. The protagonist reincarnates as a powerful weapon with memories intact, saving a young beastgirl from slavery.

He aims to become stronger while assisting this beastgirl, but he’s also on a mission to find his purpose as the duo begins their journey. While some may see it as a horrendously boring anime, many find it a breath of fresh air in the midst of all the cliched reincarnation anime that clearly is no better. In the end, it is all subjective, and only you can judge it by giving it a shot, but we highly recommend you stick through it for a few episodes at least.

8. So I’m a Spider, So What?

Admit it, So I’m a Spider, So What? is an anime that must have been on your radar for so long, but you may have delayed it due to mixed reviews from the viewers. One of the best things about the anime is its intuitiveness, although a few storylines initially seem totally unnecessary. Regardless, if you enjoy reincarnation anime with a unique story, watch it.

In the anime, an unexpected catastrophe strikes Kumoko’s school, killing almost everyone. However, many of them are reincarnated in a fantasy world into various species. Unfortunately for Kumoko, she’s born as a spider. Stuck in a dungeon filled with horrifying beasts, she must find her way out to survive, all while getting stronger.

7. My Next Life as a Villainess

We’ve had a plethora of isekai themes over the years, but My Next Life as a Villainess is a unique experience that you’ll be blessed to have if you’re really into the genre. Usually, people expect it to be another reverse harem trope, but thankfully, it avoids all the cliches and only focuses on building up the story.

The protagonist has been reborn in a new fantasy world, but to her surprise, she’s not the main character but rather the antagonist of this world. She knew it by the fact that it is a replica of a game she plays, and her character is Catarina Claes, who is doomed to face the worst demise in every ending. How will she change her fate using all her gaming knowledge?

6. Konosuba: God’s Blessing On This Wonderful World

Konosuba is a complicated anime that tackles the isekai concept in the most hilarious way possible. Enjoying a typical reincarnation anime usually requires a certain amount of focus because it requires you to understand the world’s mechanism, but Konosuba is full-on chaos. There are only disasters, failures, and, more importantly, a lovely slice of life story you would want to watch.

Kazuma dies a laughable death (hit by a tractor) on his way back home, but much to his disbelief, he is presented with two options by goddess Aqua: continue to heaven or reincarnate in a fantasy world. While he obviously chooses the latter option, when he’s offered to choose any one item, he selects Aqua to accompany him on the journey. Unfortunately, she’s completely useless, and Kazuma’s bad luck doesn’t end there.

5. Saga of Tanya the Evil

Saga of Tanya the Evil is straight out an anime with a villain main character, except it is a bit more extreme than other anime series like Overlord. It does the concept so well that you feel conflicted by rooting for the protagonist, and it is an ideal example of how anime adaptations should be made by staying faithful to the source material.

Tanya Degurechaff is a young soldier, but she’s infamous for her brutality. However, beneath this young girl’s appearance lies the soul of a young man, who was reincarnated by a self-proclaimed God named Being X. Determined to face Being X and create a peaceful world that he always dreamed of, Tanya will go to any lengths to survive in a world filled with wars.

4. The Eminence in Shadow

The Eminence in Shadow is one of the better reincarnation anime stories we’ve come across, not just because it’s different but rather due to the series avoiding typical isekai tropes. Usually, every isekai’d individual is either a loner, an incredibly unlucky guy, or a girl, but it changes here. Furthermore, the anime should be seen a little from the parodic perspective to fully comprehend it.

The story follows Minoru Kagenou, who always strived to become as strong as possible while not drawing too much attention to himself. While he pretends like an average guy during the day in his school, when the night falls, he becomes a full-throttle hero who thrashes the biker gangs left and right.

However, an unfortunate accident reminds him of the human limits as he dies abruptly, but instead of just vanishing, he finds himself reincarnated into a world where magic exists. Following his deep desire to become stronger, his conquest begins anew.

3. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation

You may have come across the term “The Godfather of Isekais” and see Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation being mentioned under that certain phrase, and it’s not wrong in a sense. Even before all the popular isekai/reincarnation anime appeared in the market, Mushoku Tensei blew up in popularity and success.

The story is about a thirty-four-year-old shut-in NEET who dies in a tragic accident, and through a twist of fate, he reincarnates into a fantasy world as a child. Taking advantage of the fact that his previous life’s memories are still intact, he decides to make the most of the opportunity that presents itself in this life. While it seems so simple, Mushoku Tensei has so many turning points in the story that even some episodes are named “Turning Point.”

2. Soul Land

Chinese anime shows rely heavily on reincarnated stories, much like how Japanese anime prefer isekai concepts, and both are unsurprisingly popular in their respective fandom. Whether you’re looking for a reincarnation anime with stunning visuals or breathtaking fights, Soul Land is your choice to go, and you can watch it on youtube for free.

1. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

While many may argue that Mushoku Tensei deserves the top spot as it is considered superior to That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime anime, we believe the latter takes the cake. The main intent of this anime is how Satoru Mikami, who never experienced true happiness, wants to build a peaceful society when he’s reincarnated as a slime.

However, with the help of a system that lets him level up, he begins to build his dream life, but there is much more to it than meets the eye. If you find reincarnation or just isekai in general fascinating, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is genuinely the best pick you can find because it is simply fascinating in both the ambiance and action sequences.
